Common faults and treatment methods of plastic granulator

No matter what machine is used for a few years, there will be some minor problems more or less, and the plastic granulator is no exception. It is often caught off guard when acute problems are encountered. Here are some common problems and solutions.


1. The screw runs normally but does not discharge


Reasons: the feeding of the hopper is not continuous; foreign matter at the feed inlet is blocked or "bridging"; metal hard objects fall into the screw groove to block the screw groove, and the material cannot be fed normally.


Treatment method: increase the feed volume to make the screw feed continuous and stable; stop the machine to remove the foreign matter in the feed port to eliminate the "bridging" phenomenon; if it is confirmed that there is a metal foreign body falling into the screw groove, the screw should be shut down immediately to remove the metal foreign body.


2. The main motor torque of the plastic granulator is too high


Reasons: failure of the oil lubrication system, poor alignment of the main motor output shaft and gearbox entry and exit shafts, motor and clutch vibration, etc. will damage the main motor bearings and cause excessive torque.


Treatment method: regularly inspect and clean the lubricating oil system, measure the main motor bearings with a vibration measuring instrument and an infrared thermometer, and form a trend chart.

3. The main motor torque of the plastic granulator is too low


Reason: The feed system failure causes the twin-screw idling to cause the main motor torque to be too low.


Treatment method: Check whether the additive system or the main material feeding system is faulty, and clear the blockage.


4.The host does not rotate or stops instantly


Reason: The power of the main motor is not connected; the heating time is insufficient, or one of the heaters does not work, resulting in excessive torque and overload of the motor.


Treatment method: check whether the host circuit is connected and turn on the power; check the temperature display of each section, confirm the preheating time, check whether the heaters are damaged or have poor contact, and eliminate them.


5.Friction clutch failure


Reason: The instantaneous starting voltage of the main motor is too low, the friction disc and the friction lining are overheated, the friction disc and the friction lining are aging, and the air pressure of the friction disc is too low, etc., which can cause the clutch to disengage.


Solution: When starting the main motor, avoid peak power consumption and reduce the feeding load. The interval between restarts should be as short as 30 minutes; in summer, when the main motor is started more than twice, the interval should be extended. Or use a fan to forcefully cool down.


5.Vent holes


Reasons: the raw materials are not clean enough with impurities; the feeding speed is too fast to make the screw extrusion unstable; the plasticizing temperature is not enough to cause the problem of the screw extrusion.


Treatment method: clean the raw materials before feeding or replace the filter screen; reduce the feeding amount to make the plasticization stabilized screw smoothly extrude; increase the plasticization temperature.


Regardless of how long the machine has been used, regular inspections and maintenance of the plastic granulator must be done. If there is any problem, find a professional plastic machinery manufacturer to solve it.
